DSTI participates in Africa Green Hydrogen Summit 2026
The Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Nomalungelo Gina, will lead the Department's participation in the Africa Green Hydrogen Summit 2026, from 14 to 16 September in Cape Town.
Hosted under the leadership of the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the summit convenes government leaders, investors, development finance institutions, research institutions, industry representatives and international partners to advance Africa's green hydrogen economy.
Participating as a strategic partner, the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) will showcase South Africa's hydrogen research, development and innovation capabilities, as well as the recently approved Eastern Cape green hydrogen strategy.
Forming part of the efforts to advance South Africa's Hydrogen Society Roadmap, the Eastern Cape green hydrogen strategy is the result of collaboration with the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, the South African National Energy Development Institute and Nelson Mandela University.
Dr Gina will address the Women in Green Hydrogen luncheon on Monday, 14 September. A networking engagement and a dedicated exhibition will form part of the Department's participation in the summit.
The Deputy Minister will also host a dedicated panel session on innovative approaches to enabling the market adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technologies, including research, development and innovation outputs.
Members of the media will have an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders on South Africa's role in advancing green hydrogen technologies, strengthening regional and international collaboration, promoting investment opportunities and supporting inclusive participation in the emerging hydrogen economy.
