MINISTER NZIMANDE TO LAUNCH INAUGURAL 2026 NATIONAL SCIENCE MONTH
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Blade Nzimande, will officially launch the inaugural 2026 National Science Month (NSM), a month-long national programme held under the theme “Science, technology and innovation are for everyone”.
National Science Month replaces Department of Science, Technology and Innovation’s traditional National Science Week as South Africa’s premier science engagement programme. It is designed to showcase the critical role of science, technology and innovation in addressing the day-to-day needs of citizens and advancing South Africa’s socio-economic transformation.
National Science Month is also intended to support the DSTI’s efforts to increase public understanding of the everyday value of science and to encourage more young people to study science and pursue careers as scientists, researchers and innovators.
Throughout July, National Science Month will feature interactive community science engagements, expert dialogues, public lectures, learner exhibitions and science tours. At the launch, the Minister will outline the month’s calendar, key deliverables and expected outcomes. Members of the media are invited to attend the launch and cover the proceedings.
