As South Africa advances it’s Just Transition and green growth objectives, increasing youth participation in the National System of Innovation (NSI) is even more paramount. The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation together with its strategic partner, Green Youth Network is hosting the Green Youth Indaba bringing together young innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, development partners and environmental practitioners.

A two-day conference underway in the North West sees stakeholders participating in robust discussions, practical workshops and strategic networking for continuous development of innovative strategies to lobby and increase capacity for the effective integration of youth in the NSI.

Held under the theme “From Youth Innovation to Green Enterprise and Economic Impact (Building Skills, Creating Jobs, and Mobilising Youth Solutions to Drive Climate Action and Economic Opportunity)”, the 2026 Green Youth Indaba recognises that South Africa has no shortage of young innovators, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers because across the country, young people are developing solutions to environmental, social and economic challenges. The challenge is ensuring that these innovations move beyond concepts and pilot projects to become sustainable enterprises, create jobs, attract investment and contribute meaningfully to economic growth.

Media are invited as follows:

Date: 19 June 2026

Time: 8:00-14:00

Venue: Sun City Resort, North West Province
