Minister of Science and Technology bids the country’s top young scientists farewell
Every year, South Africa sends a contingent of top science students from around the country to represent the country at Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which is held in Phoenix, Arizona this year. This year, six students from Nigeria forms part of this group. The Intel ISEF is the world's largest international high school science competition, which provides a platform for grade nine to 12 students from around the world to attempt to solve the world’s most pressing challenges through science.
Join us as Minister Derek Hanekom addresses these students before they depart for the United States. He will also deliver the inspirational message we would like to share with all young South Africans that maths and science are imperative for innovation.
Last year, two South African students were awarded top prizes at ISEF, and we are hopeful that the Class of 2013 will repeat these feats. Only 1 500 youngsters from around the world are invited to the ISEF to share their ideas and present their cutting-edge research, thereby standing a chance to win awards and scholarships.
