As the patron of the Siemens Profile Awards, Minister Hanekom will attend this prestigious event, scheduled for Tuesday, 23 October 2012 at 19:00, at the New Moyo Clock Tower precinct, V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

Sponsored by Siemens, the Profile Awards is an annual pan-African competition which seeks to honour journalists who excel in the field of science and technology reporting. It recognises and rewards good science reporting from journalists in print, online and broadcast media on the continent. While the language of interaction is English, the continent’s diversity is accommodated through entries in Arabic, English, French and Portuguese.

The Profile Awards will be held as part of the Sustain Our African site2016 Agent awards. Submissions made were in five categories, namely, energy efficiency, sustainable cities, industrial productivity, health care and student journalism. The latter is for entries from journalism students who covered science and technology-related stories in any of the four categories.

Issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
