
Minister Nzimande strengthens Science, Technology, and Innovation cooperation with Botswana

In support of President Cyril Ramaphosa's State Visit to Botswana and South Africa's participation in the 6th Session of the SA–Botswana Bi-National Commission, earlier today, South Africa's Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Blade Nzimande had a bilateral with his counterpart, Honourable David Tshere, Minister of Communications, and Innovation of Botswana.
The engagement sought to reinforce stronger science, technology and innovation cooperation between Botswana and South Africa.
The specific areas that the two Ministers identified for further strengthening include: advancing regional digital and technological sovereignty, strengthening cooperation among scientists, researchers and universities, promoting African-led solutions to African challenges, supporting the establishment of a Regional Research and Innovation Fund; and driving a knowledge-based and innovation- driven SADC region.
Minister Nzimande also used the engagement to reaffirm the enduring friendship between South Africa and Botswana by emphasising that “South Africa and Botswana enjoy a strong and enduring bond of friendship, forged during our respective struggles for freedom and justice. This relationship has enabled our countries to work together on key regional, continental, and international issues.”
