NIPMO to host intellectual property commercialisation workshop for small businesses in Pretoria
Small, medium, and micro enterprise (SMMEs) owners operating in the science, technology and innovation (STI) sector are invited to learn more about their intellectual property (IP) rights at a workshop aimed at empowering small businesses.
Hosted by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation's (DSTI) National Intellectual Property Management Office (NIPMO), the SME IP Commercialisation Workshops will run from 11 to 13 March in Menlyn, Pretoria.
As part of the Swiss-South African Intellectual Property Project (SSAIP), these workshops aim to empower SMMEs with the knowledge and skills required to navigate IP protection and commercialisation successfully. Following the success of the first workshop last year, this year's gathering seeks to broaden its reach, ensuring wider participation and impact across regions.
These workshops align with the priorities of the DSTI's White Paper on STI and the Decadal Plan under the theme "Innovation in support of social progress", which underscores the importance of equipping SMMEs with the necessary knowledge of IP licensing and commercialisation to grow their businesses and the economy.
The workshops are part of ongoing efforts by NIPMO and SSAIP to build a robust IP and innovation ecosystem within South Africa's national system of innovation (NSI). The initiative is further supported by previous and upcoming NIPMO activities, including World IP Day celebrations, the World IP Organisation Summer School, and the Technology and Innovation Support Centre workshop.
We look forward to your attendance as we drive meaningful discussions on IP commercialisation and innovation for economic growth.
