The government and the private sector will take stock of South Africa's research, development and innovation (RDI) activities during a stakeholder forum on 13 March. The forum will focus on energy, mining, manufacturing and agriculture, among other topics.
The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), through its entity the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), will host the forum, titled "Harnessing research, development and innovation to grow the economy and tackle key challenges".

This event is also a partnership between the DSI, the HSRC and Business Unity South Africa.

Figures from the latest National Survey on Research and Experimental Development, released in February, showed an increase in gross domestic expenditure on research and development for the first time in three years. Investment in RDI grew by 6,9% year-on-year in 2021/22, up from R25 965 billion to R27 756 billion in 2021/22.

The media are invited as follows:
Date: 13 March 2024
Venue: Focus Rooms, Heaton Lane, Longlake 20, Modderfontein and online.
Time: 08:30 to 14:30

Issued by the Department of Science and Innovation.
