CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE SCIENCE DIPLOMACY AWARDS

The South African Department of Science and Innovation and the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa are proud to co-host the Science Forum South Africa  on 6-8 December 2023 in Pretoria, at the CSIR International Convention Centre.

SFSA 2023 will serve as a public platform for “igniting conversations about science”

  1. SFSA 2023 Nominations for the Science Diplomacy Awards

The Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) serves as a platform for igniting conversations about science.  In doing so, the SFSA has also provided the opportunity for a diversity of stakeholders to be engaged in topical discussions that have been for both a national and international interest.

The SFSA 2023 Science Diplomacy Awards (awards) recognize individuals and organisations who are making an outstanding contribution to furthering science diplomacy. SFSA 2023 aims to honour these individuals whose work lies at the intersection of science, international cooperation and partnerships, policy advice, evidence-based decision-making, and diplomacy with a footprint in regional and global science community. These could be Scientists; Policy Makers; Business; Civil Society; NGOs; media, etc) who have served both country and global interests alike, through the science diplomacy awards.

The SFSA 2023 awards are committed to equal opportunity for all persons, without regard to race, colour, religion, sexual orientation, gender, nationality, creed, age, disability, institutional affiliations, etc. Nominations are expected from a wide range of disciplines, diverse organizations, geographic locations, and social demographics.

All award nominees/winners are expected to meet the commonly held standards of professional ethics and scientific integrity.

  1. Eligibility
  • Nominees are to be South African citizens and non-South African citizens,
  • The nominee individual should have contributed in the STI scientific or advisory policy community on international and global science cooperations, partnerships in building stronger links between and among societies.
  • Nominees must be alive at the time of their nomination.
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted,
  • One nomination per category, per person.
  • All motivations in the tables below should be limited to no more than 600 words.

The awards will be issued during the Forum and the exact time will be confirmed once the SFSA 2023 programme is finalised.
