The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, will be addressing the Water Innovations Challenge Awards Ceremony today, 30 November 2020.

The Department of Science and Innovation has a close working relationship with the Water Research Commission (WRC) through the Water Research, Development and Innovation Roadmap, the Water Technologies Demonstration Platform (WADER) and the South African Sanitation Technology Demonstration Programme (SASTEP).

To address development challenges, achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and respond to COVID-19 challenges, the UNDP and the WRC published a call for applications from local innovators developing technologies/solutions addressing South Africa's water challenges, particularly those that have been exacerbated by or arose during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winners of the awards have been selected and the WRC, in collaboration with the UNDP, is holding an awards ceremony to celebrate the innovators that have been selected to receive grant funding to develop their innovations further.

Members of the media are invited to join Minister Nzimande on this occasion.

The event will take place as follows:

Date: Today, 30 November 2020

Venue: Protea, Fire and Ice Hotel in Pretoria

Time: 14:00-17:00

Issued by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.

Enquiries: Ishmael Mnisi at 0660378859
