Local innovators invited to put forward posters for online AI Expo Africa 2020
South African innovators are invited to apply for an opportunity to work with France and Switzerland in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
The three countries are close partners in the field of in science and technology, with a special focus on fundamental and applied research projects, technology entrepreneurship and innovation.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digitalisation in an unprecedented fashion and the value we can draw from data has grown exponentially as we begin to truly harness advances in AI.
In pursuing the objectives of a science and technology collaborative agenda, the Department of Science and Innovation will be joining forces with the Embassies of France and Switzerland in an AI innovation call. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to exhibit on the Innovation Wall of the virtual AI Expo Africa on 3 and 4 September 2020.
The collaboration will go beyond the expo, with a study tour to France and Switzerland in 2021. The delegation will explore the French and Swiss AI research and innovation landscapes to foster networks and to identify potential research partners in AI.
AI innovations are sought to deal with the challenges of illegal fishing, energy efficiency, identifying energy and other service delivery needs, and improving profitability and customer experience, among other things.
Partners in the call include OceanHub Africa, the French South African Tech Labs, the 4th Industrial Revolution Incubator, EDF Group, Dassault Systèmes, and Engie.
