Cities are major contributors to human-induced greenhouse gas emissions and they are also vulnerable to the harmful impacts of climate site2016.  Therefore is it essential for cities to strive towards low carbon development to aid in the mitigation and adaptation to climate site2016.

In light of the above, ASSAf is hosting a workshop entitled ‘Pathways towards Low Carbon Cities’, which will take place in conjunction with the COP 17/CMP 7.  ASSAf was commissioned by the eThekwini Municipality to conduct a Consensus Study entitled Towards a low carbon city: focus on Durban, which was launched in August 2011.  The report identified 12 key strategic recommendations that the city should implement to ensure that it transitions to a low carbon city.
