Minister Naledi Pandor to open training programme on minerals processing and beneficiation
South Africa will host a critical capacity-building programme on minerals processing and beneficiation that will benefit countries belonging to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the NAM Science and Technology (S&T) Centre, has initiated a training programme to address the skills gap in the minerals beneficiation value chain in the NAM member countries.
Many developing countries, including South African, are rich in mineral resources, but lack the skills, technology and innovation capacity to develop a value chain.
A three-month in-service training course will be provided in Johannesburg at Mintek, which has become a leading provider of minerals processing and metallurgical engineering products and services to industries worldwide.
The first cohort of trainees will come from 11 countries, representing Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
The official opening of the training programme will feature a keynote address by the Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Naledi Pandor, as well as an address by Prof. Arun Kulshreshtha, the Director of the NAM S&T Centre.
