South Africa, through the African Pulsar Timing (APT) group, will host the International Pulsar Timing Array (IPTA). The APT group was established as a collaboration of researchers across the African continent to study pulsar science, often in coordination with the MeerTime project and the IPTA. The MeerTime project is a large survey programme that began using South Africa's MeerKAT radio telescope in February 2019. In September 2021, the first MeerKAT pulsar timing workshop introduced students to the field and the data analysis techniques needed for the MeerKAT data programme.
