Preparing students at technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges for the science, technology and innovation landscape will be the highlight of the Department of Science and Innovation's Africa Day celebrations on 24 May 2024.
The African Union has declared 2024 the year of education, with the theme, "Educate an African fit for the 21st century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa".
Embracing this theme, the Department has partnered with the Tshwane South and North TVET Colleges for this year's Africa Day event. The partnership has enabled students to visit several research facilities of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research this week.
The Department's celebration will take place at the Tshwane South TVET College in Centurion. It will explore the role of TVET colleges in nurturing the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs by examining strategies to build an innovative, agile and adaptive society for Africa's development.
TVET colleges play an important role in society through curricula that offer hands-on training in various technical and vocational fields, including science-related studies.
Several organisations will also be exhibiting at the event.
The media are invited as follows:
Date: 24 May 2024
Time: 09:00 – 13:00
