Call for nominations - 2022 NRF Awards

The 2022 NRF Awards will be held on 01 September and nominations for the Special Award Categories are now open. We encourage you to share the information widely with fellow peers across the National System of Innovation as well as those leading the way in South African research excellence and whose work you believe has made a considerable impact in advancing knowledge, transforming lives and inspiring the nation.

 

This year’s NRF Awards theme is Celebrating the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYSSD), which is in alignment with the United Nations declaration of 2022 as the IYSSD.

 

Nominations close on Friday, 27 May 2022.

 

The categories are as follows:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award (includes a R500 000 grant)
  • Research Excellence Award for Next Generation Researchers (includes a R50 000 travel grant for international conference attendance)
  • Research Excellence Award for Early Career/Emerging Researchers (includes a R50 000 travel grant for international conference attendance)
  • Hamilton Naki Award (includes R200 000 research grant)
  • Champion of Research Capacity Development and Transformation at South African Higher Education Institutions (includes R300 000 research grant)
  • Excellence in Science Communication (includes attendance at AAAS conference)
  • NRF Excellence Award
