The National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI), an entity of the Department of Science and Innovation (formerly the Department of Science and Technology), will hosting a stakeholder engagement workshop to discuss and facilitate consensus on a monitoring and evaluation framework for the national system of innovation (NSI). The workshop will take place on 10 October in hotel.

The 2019 White Paper on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) approved by Cabinet earlier this year, introduces several policy intents with regards to the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the national system of innovation (NSI).

Next week’s workshop can be summarised as follows:

• To brainstorm about the discussion document on the M&E Framework for the NSI.
• To discuss the M&E policy intents proposed by the White Paper on STI.
• To discuss select M&E topical issues within the NSI.

NACI is currently also conceptualising the 2020 South African STI Indicators report. This workshop will be useful in reaffirming the use of South African Innovation Scorecard as an organising framework.
