Every year on 27 September, the world celebrates the immeasurable contribution made by the tourism industry to the global and local economies and its impact to the livelihoods of millions of our people. Led by the United Nations Tourism, World Tourism Day is celebrated the world over with multiple iterations resembling the culture and heritage of local people and their environments. In 2024, UN Tourism has set the theme “Tourism and Peace” as the central idea for the messaging and approach to the celebrations. In South Africa, Department of Tourism has been coordinating the celebration of World Tourism Day annually together with provincial tourism counterparts since 2010. |
